The new Microsoft Windows television ad is an animated visual. It starts off with a closeup of stacks of currency being put up in an already loaded safe, then shows the safe being shut, with an animated character (actually a Microsoft Original Software Sticker) in a guard costume guarding the safe. Voiceover says, "Using original windows software prevents businesses from losing up to 1.5 lakh rupees. Per month. Per PC."
No Indian business house would ever have the balls to put a figure like that to any USP of theirs. Ever! Not even B2B businesses work that way in India. Not even if they are working up a customized solution for a company. And this was a television mass media ad being aired in between of the India- England One Day international match! Most probably the number has been constructed out of blank bullshit, and they would have lawyers that would be equipped with proving the claim. And yet, the calm gall!
And the source of the claim, by the way, is Forensic Study of Pirated Software, commissioned of course by Microsoft India, Feb 2008 :D
Very bad timing of the ad promotion by microsoft though. Very very bad timing. Businesses are closing down by the day. Like anyone would care about switching to original software.
As I said, when you hear it, the proclamation doesn't make sense to the common sensical part of your brain
